DOUBLE-SIDED PLACEMAT
Description
Double-sided cotton and linen placemat or small centerpiece, designed, dyed and sewn in the SONMO textile studio.
Technique
Front: Ombré, a technique which involves partially dipping the piece in the dye bath, to create a two tone gradient with a soft line where the dye color meets the un-dyed fabric.
Back: Monochromatic dye, obtained by the total immersion of the fabric into the dye bath.
Dye
Acorn: Quercus Ilex or holm oak, obtained from the acorn caps of the trees in the estate's forests.
Quince: Cydonia oblonga or quince, obtained from leaves of trees found in the farm.
Iron has been added to the back side of the piece to obtain a darker tone.
Note: Natural dyes can be very sensitive when in contact with substances with a high pH, such as a drop of lemon or vinegar. This might cause a permanent stain. If this ever happens, we recommend you follow our motto and "embrace the stain!"
