A Legacy of Textiles in Mallorca
Mallorca's textile tradition dates back centuries. After the French Revolution in the 18th century, artisans from across Europe brought new styles and techniques to the island, influenced by the ancient Asian textile practices along the Silk Route. By the late 19th century, Mallorca had grown into a major textile hub, with factories across the island producing linen, hemp, cotton, and wool fabrics that were exported throughout Europe and America. However, with the advent of cheaper synthetic fibers in the 1960s, this thriving industry faded.
At SONMO, we are committed to reviving this tradition. In our textile studio, we craft beautiful, sustainable products using natural resources from the Son Moragues estate, including wool from our sheep and dyes derived from local plants.
