SOSTENIBILIDAD

MISSION: REGENERATE

Sustainability at SONMO is at the heart of everything we do, and we believe that global change begins with local action. Our home, the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the cornerstone of Balearic biodiversity and cultural heritage. However, many traditional agricultural practices that shaped this landscape are in steep decline, which poses a threat to both the ecosystem and the cultural landscape. At SONMO, we are on a mission to reverse this trend through regenerative agriculture and the revitalization of these traditions.

SONMO RACE TO ZERO

At SONMO, we have committed to fighting climate change through our participation in the United Nations’ Race to Zero initiative. This global campaign unites businesses, governments, and other stakeholders with the shared goal of cutting carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. At SONMO, we rigorously measure our environmental impact, follow strict reduction plans, and offset residual emissions by investing in certified regeneration projects. This commitment allows us to be certified as a Carbon Neutral Organization, aligning our efforts with global climate goals and ensuring a sustainable future.

EXPANDING OUR POSITIVE IMPACT

Sustainability at SONMO extends far beyond our immediate surroundings. It drives several projects aimed at regenerating the natural environment across the Balearic Islands.

MUNTANYA DEL VOLTOR

Closest to home is the Muntanya del Voltor project, a land stewardship initiative focused on regenerating the mountains around Son Moragues. This project balances public access, private property management, and biodiversity restoration. It involves repairing ancient paths and lookout points, raising public awareness, redirecting hiking traffic, and restoring native species through planting initiatives. This effort has led to visible improvements in the local ecosystem and landscape.

TRAMUNTANA XXI

SONMO played a key role in the creation of Tramuntana XXI, a non-profit organization that has become a driving force for promoting sustainable land management in the Serra de Tramuntana. Tramuntana XXI bridges the gap between public and private landowners and encourages cooperation between civil society, landowners, and public authorities.

The organization’s efforts to restore the cultural and ecological landscape of the Tramuntana have made them an essential partner in promoting long-term sustainability. Their work includes publishing a widely adopted guide on sustainable land management practices, an essential tool in agricultural and environmental management in the region.

FUNDACIÓ INICIATIVES DEL MEDITERRANI (FIM)

In addition to our collaboration with Tramuntana XXI, SONMO co-founded the Fundació Iniciatives del Mediterrani (FIM). This foundation extends our efforts beyond the Tramuntana by supporting similar projects across Mallorca. FIM addresses broader environmental challenges associated with the socio-economic model of the Balearic Islands. Alongside our partners, we are working to create a sustainable future for the entire region. SONMO is deeply committed to combining tradition, innovation, and sustainability to create a better future. Through our active participation in regeneration projects and our dedication to sustainable production, we aim to inspire positive change and contribute to the preservation of Mallorca’s unique heritage for generations to come.
